New Sorghum Hybrid Boosts Grain Yield by 90% Over Standard Varieties!
The researchers studied how different sorghum plants can be crossed to create hybrids with higher grain yield and better traits. They crossed six maintainers with four restorers to make 24 hybrids and tested them in the field. One hybrid, ABTA2 1002 B × SPV 2175, showed the highest grain yield per plant and also had longer panicles and heavier panicle weight. This hybrid displayed significant improvements in most traits, except for test weight. The study suggests that non-additive gene action plays a major role in determining these traits in sorghum hybrids.
