Higher nitrogen levels in soybeans lead to increased growth and yield.
The researchers studied different soybean varieties to see how nitrogen levels in plant organs relate to nitrogen fixation activity. They found that higher nitrogen levels in plants were linked to increased nitrogen fixation activity in root nodules. However, the relationship between nitrogen levels and nitrogen fixation activity changed during the grain filling period. High nitrogen levels at one stage boosted photosynthesis activity, while lower levels later on led to nitrogen degradation in plants.
