Urban design impacts outdoor comfort in hot climates, study finds.
This article explores how different types of city layouts affect the temperature and comfort of outdoor spaces in hot, semi-arid climates. By studying traditional and modern neighborhoods in Aleppo, Syria, researchers found that the shape and size of urban street canyons play a big role in how hot or cool it feels outside. They used field measurements and computer simulations to show that the design of buildings and streets can make a significant difference in how comfortable it is to be outside during the summer.
