Drip irrigation boosts chickpea and coriander yields, improves water efficiency in Chhattisgarh.
The scientists wanted to figure out the best way to water chickpeas and coriander growing together, focusing on getting higher yields. They tested five irrigation methods: flood, furrow, sprinkler, drip, and a control with no added water. Drip irrigation gave the best yield (11.78 q/ha), followed by sprinkler irrigation (10.75 q/ha), with the control having the least yield (5.22 q/ha). Using drip and sprinkler irrigation had the highest profit compared to other methods. Drip irrigation was the most effective at using water efficiently, needing 4.71 kg of water to produce 1 kg of crop, while the control needed more water for the same result (2.08 kg of water per kg of crop).
