Tree species diversity in Western Ghats forests reveals surprising spatial patterns.
The researchers studied tree species in the Western Ghats of Karnataka to understand their spatial pattern, abundance, and diversity. They used statistical tools like Poisson and Negative binomial distributions to analyze the spatial pattern, finding that most tree species had a clumped pattern. The abundance of tree species in different forest types was analyzed using log series and lognormal distributions, with all forest types following lognormal distribution. The diversity of tree species was highest in evergreen forests.
