Improved rice varieties in Bangladesh increase yield and nitrogen efficiency in flooded areas.
Locally improved rice varieties in Bangladesh were tested to see how well they grow with different nitrogen fertilization methods. Applying urea before the panicle initiation stage led to higher grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency compared to traditional farming practices. The rice varieties Kutiagoni, Lalpayka, Sadachikon, Sadapajam, Moulata, and Lalmota showed the best results in terms of yield and nitrogen efficiency. Overall, using urea before the panicle initiation stage is a good way to increase rice production in areas prone to tidal flooding.
