The article discusses different types of hypotheses used in language learning research. Theoretical hypotheses are predictions based on theory or common sense. These predictions are then transformed into statistical hypotheses, such as Null hypothesis and alternatives, for quantitative testing. In qualitative studies, initial data analysis leads to temporal empirical hypotheses that need validation with more data. This process is repeated until the hypothesis becomes the final conclusion.
