Optimizing Irrigation Boosts Crop Yields, Conserves Water for Millions in Pakistan
The research looked at how well irrigation works on farms in Pakistan. They tested three different types of irrigation systems to see how effectively water gets to the crops. The study found that the current systems were not very efficient, with most farms not using water properly. However, by changing the size of the fields, they could improve irrigation a lot. The furrow bed system was the best, but all systems could do better. By making fields the right size, farmers could use up to 96% of the water they put on their crops. This research helps farmers figure out how to water their crops better without spending a lot of money.
