This paper examines why some countries in sub-Saharan Africa struggle economically despite having valuable natural resources like oil. It looks at how the way authority is structured in these countries plays a role in this issue. The paper reviews existing research on the natural resource curse, Dutch disease, and the impact of oil on this curse. It then discusses the economic factors in sub-Saharan Africa, a region with significant oil and other resources but facing serious economic challenges.
