Widowhood in Rural Nigeria Strips Women of Livelihood Opportunities.
The study looked at how widowhood affects the work of rural women in Rivers State, Nigeria. They surveyed 300 women, including widows and non-widows, to see how widowhood impacts their livelihood activities. Most of the women had some education, did different types of work, and were part of community groups. The research found that widowhood has a negative effect on the livelihood activities of rural women, making it harder for them to support themselves. To help these women, the study suggests giving them more education and economic support through government policies.
