Tidal currents reshape sediment patterns in Changjiang Estuary and Hangzhou Bay.
The study looked at how sediment transport in the Changjiang Estuary and Hangzhou Bay has changed over the past 30 years due to less sediment from the Changjiang River and land reclamation. They did surveys in 2014 and compared the data to the early 1980s. Sediment size, current speed, and sediment concentration varied with tides. Sediment levels decreased in the winter in the estuary, but not in the summer. In Hangzhou Bay, sediment levels dropped in both seasons in the north, while the south saw an increase. The decrease in river sediment didn't have a big impact on sediment levels near the river mouth. Tidal currents played a big role in stirring up sediment. A model was created to predict how the area's shape might change in the future.
