Fish species on Wouri river coast in Cameroon offer healthy diet options
The chemical composition and nutritional qualities of six fish species from the Wouri river coast in Cameroon were studied. The fish species varied in protein, fat, and ash content. They contained high levels of essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6. Catfish had the highest polyunsaturated fatty acid content. All fish species were rich in essential amino acids, with glutamic acid being the most abundant. The fish also contained high levels of important minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium. These findings suggest that Belt and Catfish could be good choices for a healthy diet due to their fatty acid profiles.
