Isan local leaders in Thailand adjusted to political changes over generations. Initially, they aligned with Bangkok to gain administrative positions. Later, power shifted to government officials from the central government. In the present generation, decentralization policies led to the rise of various local administrative organizations. This allowed local leaders to move up and down in positions based on power and budget allocations.
