Topography and spatial processes shape tree species composition in tropical forest.
Tree species in a tropical forest are influenced by both the landscape and how they interact with each other. This study looked at how topography affects the distribution of tree species in a diverse tropical forest in China. They found that while the landscape does play a role, the way species are spread out is mostly due to how they interact with each other. Topography only explains a small part of why certain species are found in certain areas. Overall, the mix of landscape features and how species interact with each other helps maintain the variety of tree species in this forest.
