New optimization method improves accuracy in complex mechanical systems design.
The article discusses how considering correlations between uncertainties in engineering systems is important for accurate optimization results. The researchers introduced a new approach using ellipsoidal set theory to incorporate correlated uncertainties in multidisciplinary design optimization. By transforming the quantitative model of correlated uncertainties into constraints of subsystems, they showed that this method can improve the accuracy of optimization results. The study includes a mathematical example and a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
