Toxic metals leaching into water from landfill in tropical climate.
The researchers studied the composition of landfill leachate in a tropical climate over 945 days. They found that the leachate changed from acidic to methanogenic within 100 days. Initially, it had high biodegradability and leached metals above legal limits. After stabilization, the pH increased, and metal concentrations decreased, but some toxic metals still exceeded legal limits.
