Aeration and Sand Filters: Clean Water Solution for Arid Areas
Groundwater in arid areas of Egypt often has iron salts, making it unsafe to drink. Aeration followed by filtration is a cost-effective way to remove these iron salts. The study tested this method on tap water with different iron concentrations. Results showed that using a 40 cm sand depth and a filtration rate between 80 to 200 m3/m2/day can effectively remove iron and turbidity from the water, making it safe to drink.
