New Sunflower Hybrids Outperform Parents, Boosting Future Crop Yields.
The study looked at how different combinations of sunflower plants affected seed yield and other traits. They found that two hybrids, CMS-232 x RHA-229 and HOlA x RHP-44, produced more seeds than their parent plants and other hybrids. Negative effects were more common than positive effects in the crosses. The biggest positive effects were seen in head diameter, followed by seed yield and plant height. These two hybrids could be useful for future sunflower breeding programs.
