Grazing near water sources reduces plant diversity in Kenyan rangelands.
Water scarcity in Kenya's rangelands led to the creation of piospheres, but their impact on plant diversity was unclear. This study looked at different piospheres (dams, troughs, rivers) during wet and dry seasons. They found that plant diversity increased further from piospheres due to heavy grazing. The river had the highest diversity, while the trough had the lowest. This suggests that range reseeding and rest periods are needed to help plants recover in degraded areas.
