The article discusses the current state and future prospects of biofuels technology in Southern Africa. By using efficient conversion methods and biomass from waste or high-yielding energy crops, biofuels production costs and environmental impacts can be reduced. Although biofuels are currently more expensive than petroleum fuels, advanced biofuels show promise in being more efficient and reducing carbon emissions at a lower cost. However, further research and development are needed for commercialization. If developed properly, biofuels can help reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security, promote sustainable agriculture, and improve natural resource management.
