Cyanobacteria laccase could revolutionize eco-friendly textile dye removal, slashing pollution.
Cyanobacteria were tested for laccase production, with Spirulina platensis CFTRI showing the highest activity. Laccase production was best on the 10th day, but inducers like guaiacol reduced this time to the 4th day. The combination of (2,5-Xylidine + guaicol) was the most effective inducer, increasing laccase production by 36.2 times. Optimal conditions for laccase production were 30°C, pH 9, glucose, and sodium nitrate. The laccase had a molecular weight of ≈66KDa and could decolorize anthraquinonic dye RBBR by 46.74% in 48 hours. This rate increased to 63.61% and 89.90% with redox mediators, showing that laccase can efficiently degrade organic pollutants at a low cost.
