Urbanization Transforms West Africa, Fueling Regional Economies and Global Connections
Cities in West Africa have grown significantly in the past 60 years, affecting how people live and trade goods. This study looks at how these cities interact with each other due to rising populations and urbanization. By analyzing city size, market potential, urbanization level, and local importance, researchers have grouped West African cities into seven categories. They found that these cities play important roles in connecting local and regional economies to the global market. The study shows that as cities get bigger and more urbanized, their interactions with other cities intensify, influencing how new cities emerge and cluster together in the region.
