Ancient volcanic ash from Alaska and Iceland found in Polish peatlands!
Researchers found Holocene tephra layers in Polish peatlands for the first time. They discovered AD 860 B tephra from Mount Churchill, Alaska, in Bagno Kusowo peatland, and Askja 1875 eruption tephra in Linje peatland. This shows that cryptotephra layers can help date and link environmental studies in Polish peatlands, contributing to a regional Holocene tephrostratigraphy for Poland.
