Slow Sand Filters Clog Quickly with High Solids Loading, Affecting Water Quality.
The study looked at how the amount of solid particles in water affects the performance of slow sand filters. They used small filter units in a lab and added a constant amount of solids to each filter. The filters got clogged quickly and had to be stopped early. Despite this, all filters had similar results in removing solid particles from the water. It seems that having high solid particles in the water or filtering too fast or too slow can lead to similar outcomes in terms of clean water.
