Floodplain Inundation Maps Revolutionize Flood Management in Champaign, Illinois
The study aimed to model floodplain inundation in the Copper Slough watershed in Illinois using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS. By analyzing known precipitation and land use changes, the researchers developed a model to evaluate flood risks in the area. They used GIS tools for spatial analysis and found that the watershed's flooding issues have worsened due to land use changes. The model can help predict floods and create pre-flood inundation maps for better flood management.
