Mars Dust Storms Unleash Unforeseen Impact on Thermal Control Materials
Researchers analyzed the characteristics of dust storms on Mars and how they affect materials like thermal control coatings, windows, and mirrors. They studied the impact of factors like particle velocity, density, size, and hardness on these materials. By using ground simulators, they developed a method to simulate the flow of gas and dust particles during Mars dust storms. They found that different scale parameters affect the flow characteristics of these storms. A concept for a Mars dust storm environment simulator was proposed to help test conditions on Mars.
