China's Farmlands Emerge as Powerful Carbon Sinks, Mitigating Climate Change
Crop production in China's typical agriculture regions plays a crucial role in both economy and environment. By analyzing carbon data, researchers found that major crops like rice, wheat, and corn act as carbon sinks, helping to reduce climate change. Different crops and regions have varying carbon footprints, with rice being the most effective at sequestering carbon. Overall, these crops contribute to a net carbon sink of 165.76 TgC annually. The study suggests ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions in crop production, providing valuable insights for developing low-carbon agriculture in China.
