New method simplifies determining aquifer parameters for better water management.
The researchers developed a method to better understand underground water systems by analyzing data from pumping tests near barriers and partially penetrating wells. They found that the drawdown of water levels during pumping can be divided into four stages, each revealing different information about the aquifer. By using a semi-analytical approach, they were able to accurately determine the transmissivity and storage coefficient of the aquifer, which are important parameters for managing water resources. The results from this method were compared to numerical simulations and showed good agreement.
