Soybean cultivation in Canada shows potential for boosting crop yields.
The study compared soybean, pea, and lentil crops in Saskatchewan, Canada to see how they affect soil nutrients and crop yields in the following year. Soybean had similar grain yield but higher nitrogen and phosphorus content compared to pea and lentil. Soil nutrient levels were similar in all three crop stubbles by the end of the season. Overall, soybean, pea, and lentil had similar impacts on nitrogen and phosphorus uptake in the next year's wheat or canola crops. This suggests that soybean production could provide rotational benefits similar to other legumes in western Canada.
