The article combines two important theories in linguistics, Transformational Generative Grammar (TGG) and Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), to understand language better. Instead of being opposites, these theories actually complement each other. By looking at linguistic competence, syntax, and pragmatics, the researchers found that TGG and SFG together give us a more complete view of language. This can be helpful in teaching and learning a second language.
