Saturated soil evaporation leads to uneven moisture distribution, impacting plant growth.
The study looked at how soil moisture changes when water evaporates from the soil surface under saturated conditions. They found that in sand at 15°C, water movement upwards was not effective, with most evaporation happening at the top 200 mm of soil. Little to no change was seen below this depth. Two sets of equations were created to measure soil moisture, one for the surface and one for deeper soil layers. The daily average evaporation rate was measured at 0.63 mm/day.
