Polluted Ganga River Threatens Millions in India, Urgent Action Needed
The study looked at the water quality in the Upper Ganga river basin in India. They used a system to categorize water quality as excellent, acceptable, slightly polluted, polluted, or heavily polluted. Different water quality parameters were measured before, after, and during the monsoon season. They calculated an Overall Index of Pollution (OIP) to show the overall water quality. The results showed that the water quality in the basin has decreased from acceptable to polluted.
