Farmers Adopt Innovative Irrigation Methods, Boosting Crop Yields and Community Resilience
The study looked at farmers in the Malaprabha area using different irrigation methods. Farmers using flood irrigation were older, had larger families, and smaller land holdings compared to those using furrow, border strip, or alternate furrow methods. Most farmers were literate, with border strip method having the highest literacy rate. Farmers grew various crops, with maize, wheat, chickpea, cotton, and jowar being the main ones. Flood irrigation had the highest cropping intensity, followed by border strip, furrow, and alternate furrow methods. Furrow irrigation was the most common method used. Overall, only 18.36% of farmers were using scientific irrigation methods.
