Tanzania's Forest Management Approach Leads to Sustainable Livelihoods and Reduced Emissions.
Tanzania has laws that give rural communities rights to manage and benefit from forests. They establish village forests, covering over 2.345 million hectares. Some villages also share management of government forest reserves. Since 2008, Tanzania has been preparing for REDD Plus, with support from various organizations. This aims to combine sustainable forest management with secure rights and livelihoods for forest-dependent communities.
