Toxic soil textures hinder growth of K-31 tall fescue in Kentucky.
The type of soil used affects the growth of K-31 tall fescue plants. In eastern Kentucky, the texture of the soil plays a big role in how well the plants grow. Generally, the best growth was seen in soil with a mix of small and larger particles, which helps with moisture and air. However, some soils had harmful chemicals like manganese and aluminum, which affected plant growth. In one soil, too much manganese in small particles reduced plant yields. In another soil, toxic levels of aluminum in all particle sizes masked the effects of soil texture. So, the type of soil used can impact how well K-31 tall fescue plants grow.
