Reforestation on Loess Plateau reduces water yield and soil water.
The study looked at how changing the way land is used in a hilly area in China affected the water cycle. They found that converting sloping cropland to grassland or woodland decreased the amount of water flowing on the surface and in the soil. This led to less water available for plants and other uses. The results suggest that planting more trees on sloping land can reduce water supply and increase evaporation, which may impact water resources in the region.
