Revolutionary Wetland Strategies Slash Phosphorus Pollution in Watersheds
Excessive phosphorus from farming can harm water quality. Wetlands can help, but where they're placed matters. A study in Michigan's Saginaw River watershed looked at different ways to pick wetland sites. They found that targeting areas with high phosphorus levels per area can reduce the most phosphorus overall. Another method focusing on long-term effects of wetlands also worked well. The study shows that choosing the right spots for wetlands can make a big difference in reducing phosphorus in waterways.
