Different levels and methods of nitrogen application were tested on lettuce growth in Erhai basin. No fertilization harmed growth and yield. Conventional and excess nitrogen didn't significantly improve growth. Optimized fertilization with more organic fertilizer didn't result in the best plant height. Increasing organic fertilizer with nitrogen improved soil nitrogen retention and fertilizer efficiency.
