New drainage system revolutionizes irrigation, weed control, and cultivation efficiency.
A subsurface drainage system was built in the Klamath Project to manage water levels and control saltiness in the soil. It helps control weeds, keeps the soil moist, and allows for earlier planting. Different types of drain envelopes were tested, and a design with cinder-filled drains spaced no more than 800 feet apart was chosen. Buried collector pipes are expected to save money in the long run compared to open drains.
