Optimizing mechanical control systems for superior performance and efficiency.
The design of mechanical control systems for servo-tracking performance depends on certain open-loop properties like in-phase, positive-real, and minimum-phase properties. These properties are crucial for achieving optimal dynamic output feedback control. Equivalence and inclusion relationships among these properties are proven in the study. A systematic procedure using convex programming techniques is proposed for designing a positive-real mechanical system. The researchers illustrate this procedure with a design example of a hard disc drive.
