India's Food Security Soars: Cereal Production Skyrockets by 2020!
Food security in India has been a top priority for agricultural policy. By introducing high-yielding rice and wheat varieties and investing in irrigation and research, foodgrain production has significantly increased. In 1965/66, 72 million metric tons of foodgrains were produced, which rose to 185 million tons in 1994/95. Imports have decreased, and grain stocks have increased from 2.2 million tons to 31 million tons in 1995.
