Clathrate hydrates are crystal compounds that trap guest substances in water cages. Methane is a common guest in these hydrates, with many industrial uses. By using molecular dynamics simulations, researchers studied how methane hydrate crystals grow on the water/methane interface. They found that the crystals grow faster along this interface compared to in bulk water.
