Estuarine fish travel hundreds of kilometers, highlighting importance of habitats.
The study tracked the movements of a fish called Pomadasys commersonnii in South Africa to understand how they move between estuaries and coastal waters. The fish spent most of their time in the estuary where they were tagged, then some time in the sea, and occasionally visited other estuaries up to 130 km away. Despite traveling long distances, the fish often returned to their home estuary, showing the importance of estuarine habitats for this species.
