Boosting Wheat Grain Size Through Improved Photosynthesis Could Feed Millions
Genetic variations in wheat affect how much and how quickly plants send nutrients to the grains during early growth. By studying 81 wheat types in Iran, researchers found that some varieties are better at sending nutrients to grains, leading to bigger and heavier grains. This means that by breeding wheat to improve nutrient distribution during early growth stages, we can increase grain size and weight.
