Seasonal storms and river flow shape sediment dynamics on Barcelona shelf.
Seasonal sediment dynamics on the Barcelona inner shelf were studied, focusing on sediment from a small river and wave action. Sediment transport near the bottom was mainly influenced by waves and river sediment, with some impact from shelf currents. Fourteen sediment transport events were identified, with storm intensity and sediment availability affecting transport rates. The sediment dynamics varied seasonally, leading to changes in bottom grain size and transport rates. Winter had coarser grains, while spring and autumn had higher transport rates.
