Individualized land ownership empowers women, boosts tree planting in Ghana.
The study looked at how changes in land ownership affect women's rights and tree management in Western Ghana. It found that as land ownership shifted to individuals, women's rights were actually strengthened through gifts and laws. Tree planting improved land security, but cocoa yields were lower on family and rented land due to work issues. Both men and women plant trees, but women get lower cocoa yields, showing gender-specific challenges.
