Drip-fed Maize Boosts Yields, Efficiency, and Profits for Farmers
In a 2015 study in Karnataka, researchers tested different ways to grow corn with drip fertigation. They varied the amount of water and fertilizer used to see how it affected the corn's growth and yield. They found that giving the right amount of water and fertilizer together led to the highest corn production. When they used 100% of the water needed plus 125% of the recommended fertilizer dose, they got the best kernel and stalk yields. This method also used nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium efficiently. Interestingly, using 75% of the needed water and 125% of the suggested fertilizer amount gave the most water-efficient results. It cost more to grow corn with higher water and fertilizer levels compared to other methods.
