Revolutionizing materials: Carbon nanotube composites promise stronger, conductive products.
Carbon nanotubes are mixed with polymers to create strong, stiff, and conductive composites. These composites have improved properties like reduced thermal shrinkage and enhanced solvent resistance. Single wall carbon nanotubes have a large surface area, making them ideal for supercapacitors. However, challenges remain in dispersing and orienting nanotubes in the polymer matrix. While significant progress has been made in producing and studying carbon nanotubes, the technology for single wall nanotubes is still developing. Cost and impurities are current limitations, but if controlled production becomes feasible, the applications for single wall carbon nanotubes could greatly expand.
