New Study Reveals Effective Strategies for Managing Soil Salinity in Farmlands
Understanding soil water and salt balances in coastal farmland is crucial for managing salinity and maximizing crop production. A model called SahysMod was used to analyze these balances in salt-affected areas. The model showed that soil salinity decreased over time, with practices like drainage systems and mulching recommended for managing salinity. Irrigating with brackish water in the dry season was found to increase soil and groundwater salinity. Subsurface drainage was the most effective method for salt leaching, while plastic film mulching was a more cost-effective way to control salinization.
