Solid waste management in Mbeya City, Tanzania is a big problem. A study looked at the types of waste in different areas of the city. They found that the waste composition was the same in both primary and secondary collection points. This means the way waste is managed doesn't affect what kind of waste is produced. People aren't doing much to treat waste at home, so the waste at collection points stays the same. The study shows that there is a lot of potential for recycling and composting waste at home and in the community.
